Tailoring is a diverse crafting profession which allows players to use various cloths and other reagents to craft armor, bags, spellthreads and even flying carpets! Tailoring is typically desired by cloth-wearing classes ( Mage, Priest, Warlock).
Tailors can find cloth commonly on humanoid and occasionally on other types of mobs, and have an increased chance to find extra cloth upon learning Northern Cloth Scavenging. In Cataclysm, Tailors above 400 skill have a chance to loot 50% more cloth.
Tailors can create spellthreads that provide powerful bonuses when applied to leg slot items.
In addition to armor with stats, Tailors can create a vast array of vanity gear and shirts.
In The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, some of the best crafted armor required a tailoring specialization to equip. In 4.0.1, these specializations ( Mooncloth Tailoring, Shadoweave Tailoring or Spellfire Tailoring) were removed and tailors could learn all recipes and transmute all specialty cloths.
Profession-specific Perk
Tailors can weave an Embroidery into their cloaks which can provide an extremely powerful procced buff. They can also craft a variety of Tailoring-only magical carpet flying mounts.
Once a week, Tailors can combine 30 Volatiles with 8 Bolt of Embersilk Cloth to form Dreamcloth. Tailors can substitute 5 Chaos Orb for the Volatiles and transmute this infinitely. The resulting Dreamcloth is BoP and used in epic spellthreads and Cataclysm epics.
Tailors can create BoP spellthreads for themselves with greatly reduced materials.
Several recipes are unlocked upon completing achievements: Deathchill Cloak from Loremaster of Northrend and Wispcloak from Northrend Dungeonmaster
